Our first stop at the beginning of the Road to Hana coastline is beautiful Hookipa Beach. There you will likely see people surfing and wind surfing, along with pronounced rock features. Many times, the number of turtles at Hookipa is more than the number of people. Many sea turtles congregate here to rest and sunbathe.
This may be the one photo opportunity that captures the essence of the iconic Road to Hana more than any other. Winding roads along a sun-drenched tropical coastline stretching on for miles and miles... It is a beautiful sight and sets the tone for the exciting path ahead!
Marvel at nature as we pass gushing waterfalls and river carved gultches! There are so many natural streams and waterfalls to pass on HWY 360, that we will cross 59 bridges as make our way around the hidden coast of Maui. The Keanae Peninsula is located just off the Road to Hana, but there is a great overlook where we will peer into the interesting community below. Filled with wet taro fields and sustainable agriculture projects, one gets the feeling that not much has changed down there in the last 200 years. There’s also an old Hawaiian village, and a church that was built in 1856.
We have reached our destination… Hana Town! We’re going to make our way out to the iconic Hana Bay and find the beach park. There we will enjoy the beautiful sights and dig into a delicious Hawaiian Style lunch.Take a deep breath… Enjoy the moment, you’re now in one of the most remote areas on the planet.
Waianapanapa may very well be the crown jewel of the whole Hana area of Maui. There aren't many places more beautiful anywhere in all of Hawaii.
